Presentation of the Institute of Biology of the Collège de France

The Institute of Biology of the Collège de France brings together all the professors in biology from the Collège de France, regardless of whether their laboratory is located at the Collège de France itself or elsewhere, and accomodated teams.

Prof. Anne Fagot-Largeault, Chair of Philosophy of Biological and Medical Sciences and Prof. Armand de Ricqlès, Chair of Historical Biology and Evolutionism also participates in discussions concerning the Institute of Biology of the Collège de France.

The aim of the Institute of Biology of the Collège de France is to promote the research being done within the Collège de France via the following activities:

  • Sharing facilities :
    • Technical platforms: conventional animal facilities, transgenic animal facilities, imaging platform (confocal imaging and electron microscopy), neural imaging platform
    • Equipment for studying behaviour in rodents
    • Document library
  • Scientific activities
    • Scientific seminars organised by each professor, PhD examinations
    • Seminars organised jointly by different professors from the Institute of Biology
    • Organisation of the “Institute of Biology Science Day”

One of the most important missions of the Institute of Biology is to allow young teams to occupy research space on a four-yearly basis (renewable once). The young teams, which are selected by the professors from the Institute of Biology, have access to the same functional resources, equipment and documents as the laboratories of the various professors of the Collège de France.
