Introducing myselfComing to economics through unusual paths, (civil serant at corps des Ponts et Chaussées), I started my career as - Research Fellow at CERMAP (Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches Mathématiques Appliquées à la Planification), then at CEPREMAP (Centre d'Etudes Prospectives et de Recherches en Economie Mathématique Appliqueé à la Planification).
and did research successively as - "Chargé", "Maître", Director of research, at CNRS, (Centre national de la recherche scientifique). (see [career])
also volunteering for teaching, - either temporarily in France in several "Grandes Ecoles" and Parisian Universities.
- or elsewhere, for example as « Lent term professor », at the London School of Economics and for short visits in North American Universities (Pennsylvannie, Harvard,..)
- and more permanently at EHESS, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, where I am Directeur d'études (part time) since 1979.(voir [career]) .
- At Collège de France, teaching has become my first duty. The opening lecture of the chair is available on video-tape (get the video-tape). It has been reproduced in the journal Revue d'Économie Politique, (2002) under the title "The state and the market : erudite constructions and spontaneous wisdom" ("L'Etat et le marché : constructions savantes et pensée spontanée"), (119), 6, Nov-Dec. 2002, p. 799-814.
Research animation, according to my country terminology, took a significant part of my time. For example : - co-foundation of Delta, with François Bourguignon, and acting director from 1991 to 2000.
- appointment by François Furet, then president of EHESS, as head of the doctoral group Analyse et Politique Economique, from 1981 à 1991. (see [responsibilities])
Policy oriented advice is another chapter of activities : a membership of Conseil d'Analyse Economique is its last avatar (see [career]) I guess it is an honour (broadly speaking) to have been a member of the editorial board of several of high quality journals, or a council member of learned societies, as for example being : - Co-editor of Econometrica from 1984 to 1989.
- President of the European Economic Association, 1994, President of the Econometric Society, 1996, of the Association Française de Science Economique (2003).
Add to this chapter : - CNRS, Silver medal, 1993,
- Honorary Foreign Member, American Economic Association, depuis 97.
- Member, American Academy of Arts and Science, since 2000, (see [responsibilities])
