Introduction: definitions and sources

Defining the family is no easy task : we'll start by comparing Babylonian terminology with current anthropological approaches. We will then outline the various sources available, whether from archaeology (architecture, physical anthropology, etc.) or epigraphy (texts of laws, contracts, letters, etc.).
