Ce colloque, comme tous les enseignements du Collège de France, est ouvert au public, sans réservations. L’objectif est d’informer nos concitoyens des grands défis qui attendent l’hôpital. L’ensemble des interventions sera capté et disponible sur notre site web.

Under the scientific direction of Philippe Sansonetti, Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France, Chair of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

Presentation

The French are deeply attached to public hospitals; after schools, they remain the public service with the highest level of satisfaction among our fellow citizens. This attachment and confidence are based on the excellence of the care it provides to all, without distinction, on its university status, which makes it responsible for the lectures and practical training of medical and paramedical staff, and on its close links with research laboratories.

There can be no hospital of the future without maintaining these cardinal missions and values. But aren't we asking too much of them? Or rather, are we giving it the means to do what is expected of it, and not imposing economic and bureaucratic constraints that paralyze it?

Beyond the utopian clichés of a futuristic architecture housing an army of robots managed by artificial intelligence, the hospital of the future must be constantly rethought in terms of its adaptation to medical progress, for which it must remain a leading player, in terms of its missions at the service of a changing society, and in terms of its governance in the face of an uncertain political and financial context. All this while remaining true to its humanist values, and listening to its staff and patients.

The challenges we face are manifold. Emergencies, psychiatry and care for the most vulnerable are among the most pressing. These challenges call for a more rational division of healthcare responsibilities with other partners, such as private hospitals and outpatient clinics. The position, size and geometry of the hospital of the future therefore remain to be defined, and its place in the care pathway also needs to be rethought. The state-of-the-art hospital will have to be able to delegate, but whatever its evolution, it will have to be in a position to play its role as "flagship" through its exemplarity: excellence in care, ultra-competent personnel, therefore perfectly trained and benefiting from attractive career plans. In addition to the quality of our technical facilities, ongoing innovation in healthcare also means that clinical research must be strengthened and positioned at the heart of the hospital of the future.

This wide-ranging program will be addressed in its many medical, scientific, sociological and economic facets by specialists committed to this hospital transformation. The Collège de France, in keeping with its tradition and with the support of its "Avenir Commun Durable" initiative, would like to offer this two-day symposium to our fellow citizens. The symposium will give them the opportunity to learn about and express their views on the hospital of the future.

The Avenir Commun Durableinitiative is supported by the Collège de France Foundation, its major sponsors Fondation Covéa and TotalEnergies, and its patrons FORVIA and Saint-Gobain.
