The idea of life elsewhere than on Earth dates back to antiquity. In 1686, Fontenelle mentioned inhabited planets and, in 1892, Flammarion considered life on Mars likely. The discovery of exoplanets opens up new avenues, but how can we avoid Flammarion's mistakes and prove this existence without direct analysis ?
