Elias Zerhouni Technological Innovation Liliane Bettencourt (2010-2011)
Elias Zerhouni, a radiologist, is renowned as one of the most influential researchers of his generation in medical imaging, owing to his research in high-resolution computed tomographic functional imaging and densitometry, together with quantitative MRI imaging of the cardiovascular system and cancer. He held senior posts in American teaching hospitals, before being appointed as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH - 2002/2008). He is considered one of the most influential figures in medical research in the United States. As a professor at Johns Hopkins University and ambassador for several organizations, he is striving to accelerate the process for applying basic research to applied research and treatment.
