The conflict between Saul and David focuses on the behavior of Jonathan, Saul's son and dauphin, who nevertheless sides with David, to whom he feels strongly attracted. The relationship between David and Jonathan is reminiscent of that between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, and includes homoerotic elements. Why this borrowing?
