Abstract

By 2050, the world's population will have reached 9 billion. How can we adapt to growing food and energy needs while preserving our environment? One of the major challenges of the 21st century is to develop a "bio-economy", i.e. to create new sustainable production systems that link the food, energy and chemical sectors. Green chemistry" consists in replacing part of the carbon of fossil origin with carbon of biological origin produced from biomass components, from plants to micro-algae.
