Socialism and liberal egalitarianism : a necessary dialogue

This symposium explores an essential dialogue between two major traditions of contemporary political thought : socialism and liberal egalitarianism. Both aim to reduce inequalities and promote social justice, but differ on the means and principles that should guide this transformation. While liberal egalitarianism emphasizes equality of opportunity and redistribution through democratic institutions, socialism focuses on transforming economic structures and challenging capitalist relations of domination. This symposium brings together philosophers, economists and political theorists to examine how these two approaches can complement and enrich each other. By confronting the socialist critique of capitalist accumulation with the liberal principles of freedom and pluralism, we seek to open up avenues for a more just and democratic society, capable of meeting the challenges of the XXIᵉ century.
