Abstract

The inventory of books in the library of Bāyazīd II compiled by ʿAṭūfī at the request of the sultan is a major witness to Ottoman cultural history in the sixteenth century. By crossing codicological and textual perspectives, the paper will seek to identify the place occupied in it by the Avicennian library. Firstly, it will seek to establish the place held by Avicenna’s works in this inventory, by listing them, studying their distribution and establishing a few connections with volumes still present in manuscript libraries in Turkey. Secondly, a number of volumes containing minor works by Avicenna will be examined in order to sketch out a typology aimed at gaining a better understanding of the different ways in which the author’s work was received up to the sixteenth century.
