Amanda Hirschi is a research group leader at the MPIM in Bonn, where she works in symplectic topology. Her main areas of interest are the foundations of pseudo-holomorphic curves and their applications, ranging from enumerative geometry to applications in symplectic and Lagrangian geometry. In particular, she has contributed, along with several collaborators, to the development of a framework that simplifies the construction of Gromov-Witten invariants and generalizes them to the open-closed framework.
She earned her Ph.D. in 2023 from the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Ailsa Keating and subsequently served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Sorbonne. In 2026, she received the Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Breakthrough Prize.
She is committed to sharing knowledge and is actively involved in organizing and mentoring workshops and seminars for young researchers.
Amanda Hirschi is the recipient of the Peccot Lecture and the Peccot-Vimont Prize for the 2026–2027 academic year, upon the recommendation of Professor Timothy Gowers, holder of the Combinatorics Chair .
