Lea Ypi is Professor of Political Theory at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Honorary Professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University, and a permanent member of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. Originally from Albania, she holds degrees in philosophy and literature from the University of Rome La Sapienza, a doctorate from the European University Institute, and was a postdoctoral researcher at Nuffield College, Oxford.
She is the author of Global Justice and Avant-Garde Political Agency, The Meaning of Partisanship (with Jonathan White), and The Architectonic of Reason, published by Oxford University Press. Her latest book, Free, published by Le Seuil in France under the title Enfin libre, has been translated into over thirty-five languages, won the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize 2022, the Slightly Foxed First Biography Award and the Ridenhour Prize.
A Fellow of the British Academy and the European Academy, his academic work has been recognized with the British Academy Award for Excellence in Political Science and the Leverhulme Prize for Outstanding Research. His new book, Indignity, will be published by Penguin Press in September 2025.
