Olivier De Schutter has been invited by the Assembly of the Collège de France, upon the recommendation of Professor Samantha Besson, holder of the Chair in International Law of Institutions.
This series of four lectures by Olivier De Schutter is part of the Collège de France’s “Europe” lecture series. From 2026 to 2028, this series is dedicated to the theme “Rural Europe .”
This lecture series will examine the emergence of the concept of food sovereignty in international law, leading up to its formal recognition through the 2018 adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas. It will then assess the impact of the discourse on food sovereignty on recent attempts to overhaul the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy in connection with the European Green Deal, through the adoption—as part of that Green Deal—of a “farm-to-table” food strategy.
