Abstract

This session examines capitalism by moving beyond the traditional vision of historical materialism, which often focuses exclusively on economic relations and the determinism that follows from them. The aim is to present capitalism both as a set of economic relations and as a system of legal relations based on property. Emphasis will be placed on the articulation between legal and economic structures, showing how legal frameworks shape, stabilize or transform economic dynamics, and vice versa. This approach makes it possible to reflect on the way in which institutions and formal rules participate in the reproduction or contestation of capitalist relations of production.
