In the Cities (2): Greece as a Culture of Sacrifice (3)

Introduction

The course over the past two years has focused on sacrificial rituals, both in their poetic interpretation (2025) and their contemporary manifestations within city-states, with particular attention to oath-taking sacrifices (2026). Building on the theme of the oath as the foundation of social life, this year’s course by Vinciane Pirenne-Delforge will present a third and final installment on Greece as a sacrificial culture within city-states.
