Presentation

This symposium is planned as the second part of the " Reconstructing Sogdiana. Discoveries and historical narratives ", held April 11-12 2025 at the Tang Center for Silk Road Studies (UC Berkeley), in partnership with the Collège de France and the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (New York University). Its aim is to produce an up-to-date and chronologically balanced review of the many new documents, archaeological operations and correlated issues that shed light on the history of the Sogdian region (the ancient land of Samarkand and Bukhara, the hub of the Silk Roads), between the Final Bronze Age (beginning around 1500 b.c.e.) and pre-Mongolian Islam (before 1200).
