As part of the “Le Collège à la Bibliothèque” lecture series, Professor Stéphane Mallat, holder of the Chair in Data science , will deliver a lecture titled “From Philosophy to Mathematics: Intelligence That’s Not So Artificial” on December 15, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Published on 2 October 2026
Introduction
The philosophy of knowledge has been shaped by the opposition between rationalists and empiricists, which lies at the heart of artificial intelligence. The revolution in artificial intelligence driven by neural networks is rooted in Kant’s philosophy. It has opened up a new field of mathematical inquiry into knowledge, challenging many preconceived notions.
