Hocine Rekaik is a developmental biologist specializing in gene regulatory mechanisms. His research addresses fundamental questions about the dynamics of developmental gene regulation within the nucleus, with a particular emphasis on the mechanisms of spatiotemporal gene control. He uses the in vitro gastruloid system to tackle long-standing questions of Hox gene timing control during axial elongation and its link to chromatin architecture. Another current focus of his research is to understand the fundamental role of Hox genes in the three embryonic germ layers during gastrulation.
