Marc Fleurbaey is a research director at the CNRS and a full professor at the Paris School of Economics. He was an associate professor at ENS-Ulm (2020–2026), a professor at Princeton University (2011–2020), and held a research chair at the College of Global Studies (FMSH, 2012–2018). He is the author of *Beyond GDP* (with Didier Blanchet, OUP 2013), A Theory of Fairness and Social Welfare (with François Maniquet, CUP 2011), and Fairness, Responsibility, and Welfare (OUP, 2008), as well as over 200 academic articles and book chapters; he has served as editor of Social Choice and Welfare and Economics and Philosophy, and is currently an associate editor of Free & Equal. He is one of the founders of the International Panel on Social Progress (Rethinking Society for the 21st Century, CUP 2018, and Manifesto for Social Progress, La Découverte 2019). He served as lead coordinating author for the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report, was a member of the United Nations Committee on Development Policy from 2016 to 2021, and currently chairs the scientific advisory board for the socioeconomic assessment of the High Commission for Strategy and Planning.
He received the CNRS Silver Medal in 2024 and is a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory.
