Ronan Moreau studied history at the University of Tours, then pursued studies in Indian studies (civilization, philology, Sanskrit languages and literature) at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and the École pratique des hautes études. He earned a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne Nouvelle with a dissertation titled Sur les chemins des terres sauvages: figures et symbolique des animaux de la forêt dans l’Inde ancienne ( On the Paths of the Wild Lands: Figures and Symbolism of Forest Animals in Ancient India) . He has taught Sanskrit and the history of India and Indian studies. Since 2012, he has worked at the Library of Indian Studies at the Collège de France. He was appointed associate professor there in 2013 and became one of the directors of the Library of Indian and Central Asian Studies.
Alongside his library management duties, he continues his research on Sanskrit literature (primarily Vedic and epic), exploring various themes and, in particular, the representation of wild animals. Additionally, his research focuses on the history of Indian studies and, in particular, on the figure of Sylvain Lévi, through the study of Lévi’s archives and his travels in Asia.
