Rhetoric as cultural logic in democratic societies : logic of values, logic of passions

This is where we see how values unfold within and between social groups. Can we speak of a new logic of values and the negotiation of their discrepancies, or even oppositions? The notion of social distance and psychological distance (emotion) are crucial. Can we talk about values again without appearing retrograde or conservative?
