Professor Henry Laurens' lecture focused on the crises of the Orient : the failure of Arab unity from 1956 onwards. Its content has been published in an essay entitled Le Passé imposé (Paris, Fayard, 2022), in which Henry Laurens recalls the elementary bases of historical knowledge in confrontation with the "post-colonial   ", which is largely a negation of it. He tackles the delicate issues of orientalism, violence, memory (or rather memories) and the past lived in the present from a victim perspective.
