Abstract
Addictions - with and without substances - are a separate field of medicine, psychiatry and research. However, disorders linked to addictive behaviors are part of psychological disorders, and there are many links with other types of psychological difficulties. How and why has the way we look at addictions changed over time ? What are the new forms of addiction ? What does research tell us about the main risk and protective factors, and about prevention interventions ?
The lecture will be followed by a seminar focusing specifically on non-produced addictions, from gambling and pathological video games to sex and food addiction. What are the specific features of these behavioral addictions compared with addictions to psychoactive products ? How common are they ? How are they identified, treated and lived with ? What are the prospects for the future? Is the number and type of addictions on the rise ?
