Introduction

This course will discuss osmosis and osmotic phenomena in their various forms. Osmosis is the prototypical example of so-called entropic forces. It is a universal phenomenon, simple in form yet sometimes abstruse in its underlying principles. The course will explore the fundamental principles of osmosis and its manifestations, illustrated by examples from various fields, ranging from filtration and energy to water transport in plants and living organisms.
