    What's special about microfinance? Does it really help the poor? There are surprisingly few rigorous studies on this question. The results of the first evaluation of the impact of microcredit will be analyzed. Microfinance institutions have also developed innovative savings and insurance products. Their rationale and effectiveness will be examined.
