Special case of nuns and priestesses

In elite families, daughters were sometimes vowed to the local deity : the best known are the nun-nadîtum, particularly those of the god Šamaš in Sippar. Princesses could also become priestesses, like those dedicated to Sin in Ur or Šamaš in Larsa.
