In a cell, biological material must be transported to the place where the proteins are functional. This is done by diffusion, but also actively by molecular motors that transport vesicles. Numerous membrane structures such as the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and endosomes play an essential role in this process. The lecture will discuss the more physical aspects of active and passive transport mechanisms and the role of these membrane structures.
