Abstract

Hybrid porous solids of the Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) type are micro- or mesoporous crystalline compounds possessing exceptional chemical and structural diversity, resulting in adsorption properties (selectivity, regeneration, etc.) that can be very easily tailored. In particular, they are adsorbents of choice for the capture and/or separation of a wide variety of strategic small gaseous molecules (e.g. CO₂) or the capture of pollutants (volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, etc.) in connection with numerous applications in the energy and environmental sectors. We have described here a few recent examples of MOFs, constructed from metals at high oxidation states and possessing the appropriate functionality (metal sites, polar/non-polar groups, pore size/shape, etc.), sometimes combined in the form of composites with other leading nanomaterials (graphene oxide, inorganic nanoparticles, etc.), all of which lead to exceptional performance and/or new adsorption or separation mechanisms. We concluded the presentation with recent examples of strategies for capturing and then converting these molecules, whether for the photomethanation of CO₂ or the reduction of formic acid for hydrogen production [1–4].
