Abstract
After a review of how the interaction of reservoirs with quantum spin chains can be represented, Gunter Schütz showed that the non-equilibrium stationary state of some quantum chains can be described by a density matrix that can be written as a matrix ansatz, allowing the stationary profile to be determined.
