This session of the seminar was devoted to the reading and interpretation of one of the Coptic receipts of the Weill codex, issued by a certain Dorôthéos and written by a reader(anagnôstês) officiating in the monastery of Atripé (Greek Triphion) named David. Note that the date and David's signature are in Greek, giving this document a bilingual appearance characteristic of the legal documents that would develop from the end of the 6thcentury until the 8thcentury . In Coptic documentary practice, therefore, we see the emergence of a form of diplomacy which, for certain obligatory parts, uses Greek as the language of reference. This problem of internal codic alternation will be explored in next year's lecture.
