Questioning the concept of adaptation in relation to the law opens up perspectives for reflection at the crossroads of ancient and contemporary law : has the law shown, in its history, a capacity for adaptation ? Is adaptability compatible with the function of law, which is to give order to society ? Do the nature and role of law change according to past (reticence of the Ancients) and modern (infatuation) attitudes to reform ? Finally, what elements of Roman legal thought resonate with contemporary legal thought in relation to the environment ?
