    Abstract

    IUPAC defines a “mechanochemical reaction” as a “chemical reaction induced by the direct absorption of mechanical energy.”1 We investigated a wide range of organic reactions and found that ball milling can affect the oxidation states of metals2,3 and spontaneously initiate polymer formation.4 Such examples will be discussed, and current research directions will be presented.5,6
