Charles Cordier (1827-1905), Chinoise, 1853 - alexandre Isard

The Musée d'Orsay continues its partnership with the Collège de France, offering its teachers a unique insight into its collections.

Continuing the dialogue initiated last season between the Collège de France and the Musée d'Orsay, Anne Cheng and Édouard Papet compare their views on Charles Cordier's Chinois, Chinoise, a pair of sculptures emblematic of the way the Other was viewed in the 19th century. An encounter between intellectual history and art history, to shed light on the cultural and political issues surrounding this work recently acquired by the museum. This lecture is part of the Orsay cycle as seen by the Collège de France.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm on the Musée d'Orsay auditorium stage.
