Carlos Lopes is Professor at the Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, Affiliate Professor at Sciences Po, Paris, Foundation Fellow of the International Science Council, Senior Visiting Fellow of ODI and Chatham House Associate Fellow. In 2017, and again in 2022, he was Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Martin School, Oxford University. He is a board member of a dozen institutions. Pr Lopes has held several senior positions within the United Nations system, including Director of Policy for Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa. He is a member of the African Union's reform team and in 2018 was appointed the African Union's High Representative for Partnerships with Europe. He has served on several global commissions. Pr Lopes is an award-winning and widely published author, with over twenty books edited or signed and articles published in major media. He has been selected twenty-three times for inclusion in the lists of the " most influential Africans " by New African, Jeune Afrique, Africa Report, Financial Afrik and others.
