Carlos Lopes is Professor at the Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, Affiliate Professor at Sciences Po, Paris, Foundation Fellow of the International Science Council, Senior Visiting Fellow of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and Chatham House Associate Fellow. In 2017 and 2022, he was Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Martin School, Oxford University. He is a board member of a dozen institutions and has served on several global commissions. Pr Lopes has held a number of senior positions within the United Nations system, including Director of Political Affairs for Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa. He is a member of the African Union's reform team and was appointed in 2018 as the African Union's High Representative for Partnerships with Europe. Pr Lopes is an award-winning and widely published author, with over twenty books edited or signed and articles published in major media. He has been selected twenty-three times for inclusion in the lists of " Africains les plus influents " by New African, Jeune Afrique, Africa Report and Financial Afrik.
