Carlos Spoerhase is a literary theorist and professor of German literature at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). He studied German literature, as well as philosophy and political theory. After completing his doctoral studies at Humboldt University of Berlin and Johns Hopkins University, he defended his dissertation at Humboldt University of Berlin, where he also earned his habilitation. Spoerhase was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and has held various visiting professorship positions, including at the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. His research focuses on German and European literature, poetics and aesthetics, as well as the theory and history of philology. His book *Too Long, Didn’t Read: On the Art of Textual Abridgment* , which explores the history and theory of textual abridgment, will be published in the summer of 2027 by Cornell University Press.
