Yvon Maday is Professor of Applied Mathematics at Sorbonne University and a member of the Jacques-Louis-Lions Laboratory, which he directed for several years. He was also a visiting professor at Brown University (USA) for over fifteen years. A specialist in numerical analysis, his research focuses on high-performance scientific computing, domain decomposition methods and model reduction. He applies these approaches to a variety of fields, from fluid mechanics to biology and medicine, with a current focus on computational chemistry, where he is co-Principal Investigator of the ERC Synergy EMC2 project.
He holds a doctorate (3rd cycle and state thesis) from Pierre-et-Marie-Curie University, and has held a number of scientific responsibilities, including directing the Institut Carnot SMILES, dedicated to exchanges between academic research and industry. A senior honorary member of the Institut Universitaire de France, he was awarded the Académie des Sciences' Jacques-Louis-Lions Grand Prix Thématique in 2009 and the ICIAM Pioneer Prize in 2019 for his contributions to applied mathematics.
Author of numerous reference publications, he has mentored several generations of young researchers. Committed to interdisciplinary innovation, he is co-founder of the GIS Obépine, dedicated to epidemiological monitoring of wastewater.
