Ivana Jerković is a a molecular geneticist with expertise in gene regulation, 2D and 3D chromatin dynamics, and developmental biology. Her previous work focused on chromatin and gene expression changes that occur during differentiation and determining how posterior HOX genes find their specific targets in the genome, identifying the role of factors like CTCF in this process. Her current project is focused on genes involved in anteroposterior (AP) patterning. They utilize gastruloids, an in vitro model of early embryonic development, to characterize the gene regulatory dynamics at the loci that drive the first symmetry breaking in an embryo. They hope this will elucidate the molecular pathways, genes, and gene regulatory networks involved in this important developmental stage.
