Çağlar Girit obtained his B.Sc. from MIT (2003) and his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (2010) under advisor Prof. Alex Zettl. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the Quantronics Group at CEA-Saclay from 2010 to 2014. He is recipient of a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (2004-2007), the UC Berkeley Lars Commins Memorial Award (2009), and a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (2012-2014).

During his Ph.D. he studied electronic and structural properties of graphene and electronic transport in hybrid graphene-superconductor devices. As a postdoctoral researcher, he measured Andreev bound states in superconducting atomic contacts. He collaborates with the Quantronics Group.

The main research interests of his group are investigating the physics of designer quantum systems; probing elementary excitations in mesoscopic matter; and developing applications of superconductors including spectrometers and detectors. His group fabricates superconducting electrical circuits that obey the laws of quantum mechanics and explores mesoscopic systems such as graphene, atomic contacts, and nanowires.
