Presentation

The human cerebral cortex is more than three times larger than that of our closest non-human primate relatives. The cortex develops from a pseudostratified neuroepithelium that gives rise to radial glia, the neural stem cells of the cortex. Subtypes of radial glia have been identified, and technical advances have enabled the creation of multiomic molecular atlases of the human neocortex across developmental stages at cellular resolution. The results shed light on the molecular and cellular dynamics of the developing human neocortex, including gene regulatory networks and lineage potential. Insights include language specializations, brain evolution, the mechanisms underlying glioblastoma, and cell-based therapies for neurological disorders.
