Abstract

A continuation of the previous lecture.

The new lecture presents the content of the Book of Joshua and theories on its composition. The question of the historicity of the conquest of Canaan is examined. Such a conquest never took place; it is an intervention, a counter-history, which originated in Assyrian times and is inspired by military rhetoric. The possible links between Joshua and King Josiah are also discussed.
