Vassos Hadzilacos received a BSE from Princeton in 1980 and a PhD from Harvard in 1984, both in Computer Science. He joined the University of Toronto in 1984, where he is presently a professor. His research is on theoretical aspects of distributed computing, specifically issues of synchronization and fault tolerance. During 2000-08 he was editor-in-chief of the journal Distributed Computing. He is co-recipient, together with Tushar Chandra and Sam Toueg, of the 2010 Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing for their work on failure detectors.
