Muriel Asseburg is Senior Researcher in the Africa and Middle East Division of SWP, the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, in Berlin, Germany. Her current research focuses on conflict dynamics and peacebuilding in the Levant (Israel/Palestine and Syria in particular) ; Middle East policies of Germany, Europe and the USA ; and issues of state-building, political reform and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
