Abstract
In what way is the governance of the artistic enterprise (i.e., the design that the artist brings to fruition, by devoting material and immaterial resources to it, but also the underlying structure, or even the legal entity, that brings together manpower and various types of capital, with a view to producing the work of art) singular compared to that of the industrial or commercial enterprise and the company producing goods or services or engaged in research and development ?
By comparing and contrasting decision-making processes, regulatory mechanisms, performance evaluation, management and succession planning, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders, we can provide some insights, in the absence of definitive answers, and take a look inside Rubens' and Bach's studios, to follow the path of Gustav Mahler, to take an interest, particularly in France, in the governance of lyric or museum institutions, with a few embarkations also in time, towards the literary and musical autumn of the Western Middle Ages and the Louis-Quatorzian century, and in space, as far as Kabuki theater.
