The Collège de France has posted online a historical list of the institution’s chairs since its founding in 1530, thanks to the work carried out by its archives department. It includes nearly nine hundred names, spanning five centuries of the institution’s history.
Since the procedures for appointment, the status, and the conditions for holding these chairs have varied considerably since the time of the first royal lecturers, this list is provided for informational purposes only, based on the Collège de France’s current knowledge. It does not include professors who served as adjunct or substitute instructors; they will be included in a supplementary list to be published at a later date.
