The Collège de France has published an online historical list of the institution’s chairs since its founding in 1530, thanks to the work carried out by its archives department. The list includes nearly nine hundred names, spanning five centuries of the institution’s history.
Since the procedures for appointment, the status, and the conditions for holding these chairs have varied greatly since the time of the first royal lecturers, the list is provided for informational purposes only, based on the Collège de France’s current knowledge. It does not include professors who served as adjunct or substitute instructors; these will be included in a supplementary list to be published in the future.
