Abstract
By recalling the functional triangle inherent in all artistic production, involving the interaction of patron(s), producer(s) and receiver(s), the third lesson will explore the place of the artist within Pharaonic society, in all its diversity. Indeed, both textual sources and the works themselves reveal a diversity of statuses, functions and skills within the immense artistic task-force—or art-force—set up by the Pharaohs to carry out their ambitious monumental programs throughout the country, and even beyond. Taking this diversity into account and thinking about it are essential to a proper understanding of Egyptian art, like all art throughout the world. The professional trajectories of some of the great masters of Pharaonic art will also enable us to examine the social mobility from which these artists benefited, as well as their major importance in the eyes of Pharaonic power.
