Abstract

This lecture will explore the immunological basis of autoantibody encephalitis and its effects on brain function. It will address the breakdown of immune tolerance, the neuronal targets of autoantibodies and their consequences on synaptic transmission and cerebral networks. The lecture will highlight the particular clinical picture of these pathologies, which can sometimes dramatically combine psychiatric, neurological and autonomic symptoms, illustrating how an immune response can profoundly disrupt brain function without major neuronal destruction.
