In the seminar accompanying my first lecture, Armelle Phalipon reviewed the history of the childhood bacillary dysentery vaccine and its most recent developments, such as a fully synthetic polysaccharide conjugate vaccine, developed at the Pasteur Institute, supported by the European Union and then by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and whose current clinical studies are demonstrating its high immunogenicity, and therefore its strong protective potential.
