Abstract

The presentation will describe the progressive organization of physics in Europe beyond national borders, placing it in a historical context: the first Solvay physics councils, the stoppage of 1914-1918, the difficulties of the interwar period and the great successes of the post-1945 period (CERN and more recent programs).
