Antoine Compagnon is Professor of Modern and Contemporary French Literature at the Collège de France since 2006, and Professor at Columbia University (New York). He is a historian of French literature, novelist and critic, author of Le Démon de la théorie (Seuil, 1998), Les Antimodernes, de Joseph de Maistre à Roland Barthes (Gallimard, 2005), La Classe de rhéto (Gallimard, 2012), Baudelaire l'irréductible (Flammarion, 2014), and Les Chiffonniers de Paris (Gallimard, 2017).
