Claudia Bank's research group at the Gulbenkian Institute in Oeiras, Portugal, invokes evolutionary theory to quantify the interaction of evolutionary forces across levels of biological organization and across environments. Combining theoretical work with rigorous statistical data analysis, it work covers the interdisciplinary research area between population genetics and molecular biology. By means of targeted collaborations with experimental researchers, the research group applies classical and novel theoretical approaches to long-standing evolutionary questions about adaptation and speciation, including those of biomedical concern, such as our ability to predict routes to antimicrobial resistance.
